The area of Plaka near the Acropolis Museum in the Athens center, is a dreamy place, full of beautiful neoclassical houses and images that evoke memories of an old Athens. This neoclassical building, built around 1924, is a landmark of the area. In its original form it had a semi-basement, an elevated ground floor, a first floor and a terrace with a unique view of the Acropolis. At the back there is a hidden courtyard. The façade, faded by time, has neoclassical elements, such as the wooden two-door entrance doors, the parapets and a special decorative sign with the construction date. In its new form, the house will have an additional roof apartment, which takes advantage of the terrace space and utilizes its unique view. The planning to house two young, modern families in the house is a challenge.
The proposal highlights the existing architectural style of the house and at the same time covers the needs of the users. The feeling of old Athens is still evident through the architectural references of the building, rendered in a more modern style. The extremely detailed design offers the possibility of high quality living. Plaster ceilings, special decoratives and elements reminiscent of the past have been preserved and integrated harmoniously with modern elements of abstract aesthetics. The materials and the color palette of the spaces exude intensity and dynamism in a minimal context. Custom-made furniture and constructions frame most of the spaces, so that they are unique objects of personal use of the families in a timeless style.
