Concept Inside Out
Summer in the Greek islands means being outside. Based on this idea and taking into account the existing limitations of the specifications, the double house merges the interior with the exterior in the best way.
Horizontal concrete levels dominate, providing pleasing, open surfaces that serve as both shading for the lower floors and levels for maximum sun utilization higher up. They are vertically interrupted by the intentionally closed circulation volume and other than that only by flexible panels and sliding glazing, which allow the best and abundant sea view.
The spaces inside are open and pleasant, with the defined dining and living areas being fully functional, without obstructing the view and openings.
The houses are environmentally friendly and in unison with the landscape. For energy, photovoltaic panels are cleverly placed at the back of the plot, taking advantage of the natural slope of the ground for maximum efficiency.
The entrance to the plot is formed amphitheatrically with a combination of slopes and retaining walls, which define parterres of Mediterranean, aromatic plants.
The materials used are natural, local stone, wood, in order to achieve harmonization with the surrounding landscape. Glass and metal to a lesser extent, complement the palette with neutral shades of textures and surfaces, so that they frame the view beautifully without distracting from it.
