Concept: Reimagining through materials

Our office was asked to reconstruct and reimagine an existing residence in Ekali, in order to upgrade it, aesthetically, functionally and energetically. The residence location is in the center of Ekali, a northern suburb of Athens with a lush green environment, tranquility and harmony.

All the modifications were designed with attention to detail and the residence was redefined through the selection of new, natural materials, which harmonize it perfectly with the environment and give a feeling of effortless luxury. The existing structure underwent volumetric adjustments of the balconies, aiming for a quieter exterior facade of the residence.

The choice of external Dionysos marbles has references to the surrounding area and their hue reflects the landscape. Accordingly, the bespoke constructed, sturdy metal fencing of the plot creates a dynamic contrast with the quiet garden and the swimming pool. The custom-designed outdoor shower is a focal point of the architectural design, with the choice of its materials unifying the fencing with the marble.

The residences interior is unified with the garden, through large openings from floor to ceiling. On the ground floor, marble dominates as a material, with wood details in the specially constructed furniture that offer British style. Moving towards the upper floor with private spaces, a materials antithesis is created, with marble being retained only in the furniture details and the large floor and cabinets surfaces giving way to warm oak wood, of natural hue. The meticulously designed bathrooms with colorful sinks and wooden furniture follow this aesthetic, offering a sense of “hygge”.
